Fall color is beginning in northeast Ohio. Although the Sugar Maples have not reached peak fall color, other plants including Sassafras, Sourwood, Black Tupelo, Staghorn Sumac, Burning Bush, and Dogwood have exploded in fall color.
Although not at peak fall color which is unusual for late October, several plant are early standouts in Lake County, Ohio.
Sassafras, Sassafras albidum can range from yellow to brilliant orange.
Although most often seen as an understory plant on the edge of the woods, Sassafras can grow into a beautiful mature specimen tree.
Black Tupelo, Nyssa sylvatica has a bright red fall color.

Sourwood, Oxedenrum arboreum , has a deep red fall color with flower stalks.
Sourwood can grow into a mature tree as well.
Staghorn Sumac, Rhus typhina makes an outstanding orange accent when grown as a clump.
Flowering Dogwood, Cornus florida, is beginning to turn deep red.
Burning Bush, Euonymus alatus ‘Compacta’ are in living up to their name. they are on ‘FIRE’!
Red maples, Acer rubrum and Sugar Maple, Acer saccharum and just beginning their fall color show.
