Turf Team Times brings together the OSU Turfgrass Team to share timely updates about what's happening in sports and lawn turf!

This week, we saw stormy days up North creating some wet and humid conditions for our lawns. Weather conditions have led to some delays in certain insects and disease appearances. Todd Hicks talks about Poa trivialis or roughstalk bluegrass, an invasive species that usually goes dormant and looks dead in July/August. It has been delayed and is just now starting to brown out and may alarm homeowners. Management includes killing it with an herbicide WHEN IT IS GREEN in spring and reseeding the entire area.

Rust and slime molds are also being reported.  Learn more about these in your lawn in this week's Turf Team Times.

In the insect world, fall armyworm moth numbers are up but vary location to location. It is time to check for white grub activity in lawns. About now we are seeing 2nd instar grubs. Animal digging can be a sign of grubs as well as other invertebrates such as cranefly larva in turf.  Early to mid September is time for grub control. Dr. Wu discusses options for treating grubs this time of year including some organic options.
