Spraying Pesticides is about Economics, Efficiency, Efficacy and Environment.
This workshop touched on all four of these concepts.
Willowbend Nursery, one of the Petitti Family of Farms located in Perry, Ohio was the site for an all-day spray technology workshop on August 4th, 2026 organized by Ohio State Extension. Participants included applicators and workers from nurseries across northern Ohio, educators and researchers and administrators from Ohio State University, Ohio Department of Agriculture staff as well as county extension educators.
Staff from Petitti Family of Farms including applicators from Klyn Nursery, Losely Nursery, Ridge Manor Nursery, and Willowbend Nursery engaged in the demonstrations of spray equipment ranging from drones, intelligent sprayers, air blast sprayers, and boom sprayers.
Tom Taconet, from Avon UAS explained spray drone technology and components as well as demonstrated his drone sprayer.
Mike Schrieber, from Fred’s Water Service, a local sprayer sales and repair company demonstrated a Cima sprayer which has application to vineyards and nurseries.
Erdal Ozkan, Professor and Extension State Specialist, Department of Food, Agriculture, and Biological Engineering for The Ohio State University was the lead presenter in explaining and demonstrating calibration of spray equipment and the importance of economics, efficiency, efficacy, and environment as we apply pesticides to all crops. He presented the basic and advanced concepts of spraying in the morning.
The afternoon was highlighted by hands on demonstrations of all types of spray equipment and drones.
Also in attendance were staff from Lake County Nursery, Beardslee Nursery, North Branch Nursery and Willoway Nurseries.
Over 40 participants took part in the workshop
which was co-sponsored by Lake County Extension and Erie County Extension.
