Spring blooming trees and shrubs are beginning to bloom. And those showing the color lavender or various shades of purple to hot pink are striking.
Most Magnolias have passed their prime.
On a recent trip to Gibonsburg, Ohio, I was surprised by the native stands of Eastern Redbud.
I knew there were native stands in Milan, Ohio.
Also, there are native Redbuds in Marblehead, Ohio.
But the concentration of those along the wood line near Gibsonburg was striking.
There are other lavender colored plants in bloom.
Common Lilac is just starting to bloom.
And the flowers are fragrant.
Along with Korean Spice Viburnum, is also fragrant. Although the blooms have a pinkish cast
as they open, the flowers are actually white.
Crabapples are coming into bloom and can range from white to lavender to pink.
Hyacinths have just finished blooming.
But Grape Hyacinths are just starting.
And Weeping Cherries are done.
Excepts for a little splash of color.
Soon, those who planted Tulip bulbs last fall will begin enjoying their blooms.
But not all is rosy! I mean lavender.
Purple Deadnettle and Henbit, both winter annuals are making their presence known.
And in home turf we are seeing Violets,
and Ground Ivy.
Although they are a pain for farmers, it was a pretty picture.
If you are fortunate to have a more acid soil, both Azaleas,
And Rhododendron will be blooming soon.
So, Luv your Lavender color.
But true Lavender
will not bloom until summer.
