Northcentral Ohio Extension offices offered an opportunity for Master Gardeners and community members to see Spotted Lanternfly 1st and 2nd instar nymphs.
On Wednesday, May 29th, 2024, Master Gardeners and community members from Erie, Lorain, Huron, and Seneca counties gathered in Sandusky to see SLF up close and personal.
The tour began at a private residence located near The Original Margaritaville - Sandusky, 212 Fremont Ave, Sandusky, OH 44870.
The group toured the site, inspected tree of heaven,
grape vines,
and other plants looking for nymphs.
Next the group traveled to Firelands Winery and Restaurant,
located .7 miles away from the infestation.
The winery is well aware and has been vigilant in scouting vines.
The group had a formal presentation on Spotted Lanternfly, its introduction to the United States, specially Philadelphia Pa, and its movement into and through Ohio, and reporting to the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
The main goal was achieved giving participants tools to find spotted lanternfly.
