What is the Tri-State GIC?
The Tri-State Green Industry Conference (GIC) has been offered annually for over 85 years. From its humble beginnings in a greenhouse head house, the GIC has grown to a premier regional one-day training event with 10 educational tracks:
- General Pest and Disease Management: A focus on a range of issues related to insect pests, diseases, and weeds, including cutting-edge management options.
- Annuals and Perennials: A focus on topics related to working with herbaceous plants in production, design, and maintenance.
- Trees and Shrubs: A focus on topics related to working with woody plants in production, design, and maintenance.
- Turfgrass Management: A focus on management of commercial, residential, and athletic turfgrass.
- Greenhouse and Urban Ag: A focus on management of greenhouse crops, especially ornamental annuals, and urban vegetable crops.
- Landscape Ecosystems: A focus on sustainable landscape management.
- Emerging Ideas and Issues: A focus on breeding programs involved in developing resistant varieties to our top insect issues, as well as soilless mix issues, plus updates on the future challenges we will be facing.
- Green Industry Classroom to Career: A focus on resources available to educators for their classrooms and students to introduce them to green industry careers and incorporate horticulture into their lessons
- Worker Safety: A focus on keeping workers safe by addressing PPE, proper equipment maintenance and use as well as other issues that threaten the safety of Green Industry employees.
- Spanish Track: Este curso cubre el diseño del paisaje, preparación del suelo, el manejo de plagas emergentes, y las mejores prácticas para la selección de plantas y el éxito a largo plazo del paisaje. This track covers landscape design, soil preparation, management of emerging pests, and best practices for plant selection and long-term landscape success.
Professional Credits/CEUs Available at the 2026 Tri-State GIC:
Ohio (ODA) Pesticide Applicator Recertification Credits:
- ODA Commercial Applicator: CORE = 4 hrs.; 3A = 1 hr.; 4A = 1 hr.; 5 = 1 hrs.; 6A = 5 hrs. (1 hr. is in Spanish); 6B = 1 hr.; 6D = 1 hr.; 8 = 2 hrs.; 10A = 0.5 hr.; 10D = 0.5 hr.
- ODA Private Applicator: CORE = 4 hrs.; 4 = 6 hrs. (1 hr. is in Spanish); 5 = 1 hr.; 7 = 4 hrs.
ISA Credentials CEUs:
- Certified Arborist = 23; Utility Specialist = 4; Urban Forest Professional = 23; Board Certified Master Arborist (BCMA)-Science = 8; BCMA-Practice = 4; BCMA-Management = 11; Tree Worker (TW) Climber Specialist = 8; TW Aerial Lift Specialist = 8
Ohio Green Industry Association (OGIA), OCNT Credits:
