Rainwater mitigation is a challenge. With initiatives and programs like Ohio Department of Agriculture’s H 2 Ohio, water quality is important.
In April of 2019, I was walking in downtown Cleveland near University Circle and took pictures of newly installed plant materials to prevent erosion and filter rainwater in the Doan Brook watershed.
It was obvious that time, material, labor, and cost were involved in the project.
Rock walls were installed to slow water flow.
Live stakes of Red Osier Dogwood were installed.
Concrete walls were poured.
And a great deal of plant materials were planted.
When I returned in July of 2023, over 4 years had passed.
I was amazed at the transformation.
Since pictures are worth a thousand words, I took updated photos from a similar angle of before and after shots.

Rainwater Mitigation does work.
The key is who maintains the project after installation.
If you commit time, resources, and manpower to maintain the project, the results can be amazing!
