The Pollinator Partnership is proud to announce that June 18-24, 2018 has been designated National Pollinator Week. This week long observation is a time to celebrate pollinators and spread the word about what can be done to protect them.

Eleven years ago the U.S. Senate’s unanimous approval and designation of a week in June as “National Pollinator Week” marked a necessary step toward addressing the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. Pollinator Week has now grown into an international celebration of the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats and beetles.

The Pollinator Partnership has a website that you will want to check out http://pollinator.org/

Additionally, there is a page that is a landing for all information related to National Pollinator Week at http://pollinator.org/pollinator-week

The website is packed full of great information developed to help get the word out. There are National Pollinator PDFs that include:

  • General Facts About Pollinators - http://pollinator.org/assets/generalFiles/Pollination-Fast-Facts-General-2018.pdf
  • Pollinator Facts for Farmers and Ranchers - http://pollinator.org/assets/generalFiles/Pollination-Fast-Facts-Farmers-Ranchers-2018.pdf

Locally OSU's Department of Entomology has the OSU Bee Lab website that should be a "favorite." The website is a great resource for information on bees and other pollinators too. There are links to factsheets, bulletins, webinars and more. Check out the website at http://u.osu.edu/beelab/

Start celebrating pollinators today! Use the designed week to step it up and get the word out to others about pollinators and their importance.

Don't stop after the week is over, pollinators need us all year long!  Happy National Pollinator Week!
