Diagnosing tree pest problems can be challenging especially in the middle of winter when pests and trees are not actively growing. However, if one takes their time and follows the proper steps of plant pest diagnoses, one can still reach an appropriate answer...it just takes a little more time.

As the vibrant season of spring unfolds, so do the challenges of managing pests and plant diseases. But fear not! Doyeon Park, a master's student in the Department of Plant Pathology at CFAES Wooster Campus, in collaboration with the C. Wayne Ellett Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic, has created two very useful videos. These videos guide you through the essential steps of collecting proper diagnostic samples and understanding the diagnostic triage process at the clinic.

Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna (previously Ranunculus ficaria)) belongs to the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae, and is sometimes called "fig buttercup." The “buttercup” describes the bright yellow flowers, and the “fig” refers to the shape of the underground tubers.

Skunk cabbage (a.k.a. swamp cabbage, clumpfoot cabbage, meadow cabbage or polecat weed) (Symplocarpus foetidus) may be one of the earliest blooming spring flowers in Ohio. Its flowers could be easily overlooked by the causal observer.
