If you find yourself in Toledo, Ohio before November 6, 2016, I recommend a visit to the Toledo Museum of Art to enjoy the Jaume Plensa: Human Landscape Exhibit.  Seven large outdoor sculptures, plus an indoor installation that includes a stainless steel curtain through which visitors can walk, will be on view through early November.

The artist was born in Barcelona, Spain.  Plensa is recognized for his large figurative sculptures of the human form incorporated in the outdoor landscape.

One of my favorite sculptures in the exhibit is The Heart of Trees.  The sitting sculptures surround Kentucky coffeetrees planted on slightly raised mounds.  While the planting method would not be recommended long term for the health of the trees by horticulturists or arborists, its appearance is eye-catching in an artistic way.

Organized by the Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art in Nashville, Tennessee, the traveling exhibition was on view at the Tampa Museum of Art in Florida before coming to Ohio earlier this summer. The Toledo Museum of Art is final venue to display these extraordinary works of art.
